Palazzo Mansi - Weaving workshop

Print this page

With passion and initiative, in 1950 Maria Niemack (Milan 1892 – Lucca 1975) opened in Lucca a workshop called “Tessiture Rustiche della Lucchesia “ (Rustic weaving of Lucchesia) that, using 19th and 20th-century looms and instruments found around the territory, reproduced and sold typical textiles of the local tradition.
All the equipment of the workshop was donated to the museum and today, in the premises that originally housed the kitchens of the palace, it is back into full operation thanks to specialized craftswomen who show to the public the various stages of weaving. The section also exhibits samples of the different types of fabric, trimmings and galloons made with these instruments.
